Riding Splash Mountain and Grizzly River Run Over and Over Again

July 06, 2010, 7:52pm
These two rides can be extremely popular, especially in the summer during the heat of the day. CL and I decided to take a ride on Splash Mountain in December at night, and we discovered something interesting that will come in handy on our future winter trips to the park.

On December 30th, 2009, we were at the park for our New Year's Eve vacation. The temperature was chilly, and it sprinkled constantly throughout the day. It had been several years since I road Splash Mountain (not CL's favorite ride, but I coaxed her into it). Because of the weather conditions, there was literally no wait. We walked our way through the line and were immediately seated in our log. Naturally, we were assigned the front seats for maximum splash exposure. At the completion, we were invited to remain in our seats to go another round. We overheard a few other people saying that they had been on it several times in a row without getting back in line.

We were wet and cold and not thinking straight. But a few minutes later when the freeze started to break, an idea had occurred -- an ingenious-take-over-the-world sort of idea! On our next trip during cold and wet weather, we would bring two sets of clothes. The first would be a normal keep-us-warm clothes. The other would be something basic; shorts and a t-shirt. The latter would be stuffed into a backpack. We'd change into that set moments before hitting up Splash Mountain, ride the ride over and over for an hour or two and get completely soaked. Once we had enough, we'd head to the nearest restroom and change into our warm, dry clothes. Of course, the same plan applies to the Grizzly River Run in California Adventures.
